Description
In the late 1950's, the Fort Lauderdale marina opened as a fuel dock for Phillips 66 Petroleum Company. They built a yacht club on site and in 1957 opened the Pier Sixty-Six hotel. A 17 story tower was added in 1965 to meet growing demand.
The tower's signature crown became a distinctive feature of the Fort Lauderdale skyline. It included a revolving cocktail lounge/restuarant that offered 360 degree views of the waterways as its floor slowly circulated every 66 minutes. There are 66 pointed spikes around the tower's crown, which was designed by Richard F. Humble
Currently now called the Pier Sixty-Six Hyatt Regency, the rooftop underwent renovation and was converted into a special occasion venue called Pier Top.
